Do you think that you should get some kind of a discount, even a minimal one, for using a self checkout lane? After all, we are saving them cash when they can have only one cashier oversee 4-6 checkouts. I think it is only fair that some kind of savings be realized for doing the work yourself?

I agree with you, but their logic is that you save yourself time (instead of cash) by spending less time standing in line.

I totally agree. Stores claim they keep the costs down by having self check out lines. But I like the idea of having an actual cashier. If they want to have self check out then do it like gas stations that have full serve and self serve, where the self serve is cheaper. I hate using the self check out at Home Depot, they never work right and have to have a cashier assist. Why not just have a cashier to begin with.
