original price = x
discount = 55% * original price = 0.55x
original price – discount price = 13.95
x – 0.55x = 13.95
0.45x = 13.95
x = 13.95 / 0.45
x = 31 = original price
The original price is $31.

x * (1-.55) = 13.95
x = 13.95/.45 = 31.00
