Yes. (Of course, your idea of a lot and the airlines’ idea of a lot may not be the same.) In fact, you don’t even have to travel together, just be going to the same place (not necessarily FROM the same place) at about the same time. All major airlines have group sales desks, and just about any large convention or professional/academic conference has this arranged.

No, airlines, well I will be frank with you, don’t give discounts. They really don’t. So no, you can go to discount online web pages, such as http://www.orbitz.com and http://www.expedia.com, or http://www.couponowl.com/coupons-for-Travel/CheapOair.com/

Yes, you can. On Southwest Airlines, they have a group program available to groups of 10 or more. Here’s a link to the information:

Most website will give information, and at least Southwest does, you just need to show some infromation.
